Bio
Joyce Nojima is a second-generation Japanese American from Santa Rosa, California. Joyce has exhibited her site-specific installations at Bay Area Children's Discovery Museum, CuriOdyssey, West Coast Craft, and Lumiére Arts Festival in Nova Scotia, Canada. Her work has been shown at Root Division, Headlands Center for the Arts, Berkeley Art Center, Southern Exposure, San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, and San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles. She received her B.A. in Art Practice from UC Berkeley and her MFA at UC Davis. She was an Affiliate Artist and Graduate Fellowship Program at the Headlands Center for the Arts. She was also a former studio artist at Root Division. She is currently an art educator at SF City College, SF City Extension, Ruth's Table, and is a Teaching Artist in Residence at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
Statement
This is my attempt in making a visual escape. I play and swirl my marks in hope of creating an experience. An experience where one may become lost in the looking while drowning out the noise of reality.
